In 2005, humans covered at least 43% of land surface. So if the population then was 6.5 billion then when we hit about 15 billion people, the Earth will be full. At a conservative estimate of the current growth rate, i.e. 1% per year, in about 84 years there’ll be nothing but people, towns, cities and farms.
To quote Agent Smith in The Matrix, “Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You’re a plague…”
And Smith finishes by saying that they (the machines) are the cure.
But there is no matrix. One can only hope that a few of us survive whatever response Mother Nature uses to teach us a lesson. And that those few learn the lesson.
